VMware introduced a beta version of VMware vSphere Big Data Extensions

VMware introduced a beta version of VMware vSphere Big Data Extensions, supports Apache Hadoop and designed to work with large data sets. Using the new features VMware vSphere, enterprises can deploy, run and manage Apache Hadoop clusters along with other key applications in a shared virtual infrastructure.

Currently, more and more companies are switching to Apache Hadoop, because they want to have a better understanding of the current business situation and take informed decisions in the present conditions, when the volume of data to be processed is constantly growing. Running the Apache Hadoop platform VMware vSphere, enterprises will be able to implement and scale the system to use the hardware.

In addition, the company will be able to achieve a higher level of security by isolating virtual machines and increase the reliability of the components through vSphere Fault Tolerance and vSphere High Availability. The use of Apache Hadoop in a virtual environment to avoid the costs associated with the creation of a separate physical clusters and management, as well as to take advantage of combining computing resources and storage resources on a common virtual platform. Version VMware vSphere Big Data Extensions established by the work of Project Serengeti - open source project launched by VMware in June 2012, which aims to provide companies the possibility of rapid deployment of Apache Hadoop clusters in virtual infrastructure.

The growing popularity of Project Serengeti contributed to the fact that VMware has released a commercial version of this technology - VMware vSphere Big Data Extensions, scaling, and interface that allows administrators to deploy Hadoop clusters and managed by VMware vSphere. Along with the release VMware vSphere Big Data Extensions VMware introduced a new version of Project Serengeti. This version includes support for Apache Hadoop YARN - a new generation of MapReduce.

In addition, the Project Serengeti improved procedures for setting up virtual machine resources and recover from a disk failure. Upgrade to Hadoop Pivotal HD became the first distribution based on YARN, which is supported by a Project Serengeti. In addition, the new version expanded support for popular Linux distributions Apache Hadoop 1.2: Cloudera Distribution Including Apache Hadoop (CDH) 4.2, CDH 3, Greenplum HD 1.2, MapR Distribution for Hadoop 2.1.3 and Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP) 1.3. In the past year, the new versions of tools Project Serengeti there are more opportunities to work with the Apache Hadoop.
