DRAM-largest manufacturers switch to mobile production
Korean memory chip maker Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix intend to change the structure of production of DRAM-memory, giving much greater priority issue areas mobile chips. This chapter of the respective companies said in interviews Korean news agency Yonhap. estimated Taiwanese spot operator DramExchange, in the first quarter of 2014 the volume of spot transactions of purchase / sale of mobile DRAM chips grew by 34%, while the volume of transactions in DRAM-chips for desktop decreased by 31%.
DRAM chips for servers, consumer mobile PC graphics solutions and up to 19%, 9% and 7% respectively. Consolidated sales DRAM-chips in the first quarter of this year amounted to 5.29 billion units of production reported in DrameXchange. In 2010, production of DRAM for desktop computers increased by 62%, but in the next four years this figure has steadily declined. In 2012 and 2013 he snizils by 44% and 33% respectively.
At the same time the demand for mobile DRAM chips grew by 32% in 2013. At Samsung and SK Hynix say that now companies build capacity so that the main conveyors are converted into mobile chips and desktop area will be secondary.
The company Samsung, the world's largest manufacturer of memory modules, now holds 39% of mobile DRAM-chips, whereas in 2010 the company's share was 17%. At the same time, the share of the Samsung PC-DRAM segment declined during the same period from 53% to 22%. At SK Hynix say that in 2013 for the first time in the history of production of mobile chips for the first time exceeded the volumes desktop chips.
