Chip makers TSMC and GlobalFoundries promised 3-GHz ARM

CPU manufacturers TSMC and GlobalFoundries said that next year they plan to release a chip ARM, which will be capable of operating at speeds up to 3 GHz. The companies say that such chips will almost certainly be accepted by users of smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices, created by SoC-platforms. ARM-chips are highly modified form of RISC-processor, which is licensed by the British chip maker ARM Inc others.

By its power, these processors are significantly inferior to the PC or server processors, but its energy efficiency significantly circumvent them. ARM is used in the lion's share of modern mobile electronics. At present, the fastest chip on the ARM-based microkernel is clocked at 2.3 GHz, but most of the chips has a frequency of about 1.5-1.6 GHz.

At TSMC said that if the current ARM-based chips for 28-nanometer process production, 3-GHz chips will be the 20-nanometer, which will increase the efficiency and performance of the processor, reducing their power consumption.
