Cisco: By 2020 the network will be connected to more than 50 billion devices

Cisco Systems, Inc. continues to develop the marketing concept of the Comprehensive Internet (Internet of Everything), and the other day in a blog Cisco company placed "counter Comprehensive internet." This counter shows in real time how many objects are connected to the World Wide Web at this time. To calculate the number of connected objects, Cisco specialists have determined the total number of objects existing in the world and estimated the proportion of those that are already connected to the Internet.

In 2012, according to these estimates, the total number of objects was 1.5 trillion, and the number of connected - 8.7 billion, or 0.6 percent of the total. This year, the number of connected objects exceeded $ 10 billion, and is now connected to the Internet every second 80 properties. Next year, the figure is close to 100, and by 2020 - more than 250.

Given the reduction in the cost of network connections and the associated rapid growth in the number of connections M2M (machine-to-machine), Cisco expects growth in the number of connected objects to 50 billion by 2020 . The elements of this forecast? As expected, also in 2020 the total number of objects on the planet will increase to 1.8 trillion (at an average annual growth rate of 3 percent), connected to the World Wide Web will be 2.7 percent of all facilities.

At the same time, according to forecasts Cisco, in the period from 2012 to 2020 the cost of the network connection will fall annually by an average of 25 percent. At about the same pace will increase the number of connected objects. In other words, the cost of connection will be inversely proportional to their number.

Thus, if the Cisco forecast comes true, then, as already mentioned, in 2020 the Internet will join more than 50 million objects. What are these objects? Mobile devices, meters for car parks, thermostats, heart, cars, roads, shelves in supermarkets and - yes! - Even the animals on the farm ...
