Trend Micro warns of a malicious campaign
Japanese antivirus company Trend Micro has detected a new target of attack, within which is sending malicious emails government representatives of 16 European countries and some Asian countries. Fake letters look like messages from the Chinese Defense Ministry and contain malicious attachments that exploit the vulnerability has already closed in Microsoft Office 2003 and 2010. Jonathan Leonardo, technical specialist Trend Micro, says that this is about the vulnerability CVE-2012-0158, which was eliminated more than a year ago.
According to him, before Trend Micro discovered two other malicious campaign - Safe and Taidoor, which also used this same vulnerability. hackers in the new campaign are counting on the victim machine without the appropriate corrections for installation backdoor and steal bank details to Microsoft Outlook and other popular programs.
According to the analysis of Trend Micro, the stolen information is sent to two IP-addresses in Hong Kong, although at the moment the appropriate servers are turned off and are not available on the network. antivirus company reports that the victims of a campaign are primarily European and Asian diplomatic circles, as well as several large Chinese media companies.
